Crisis management & crisis coaching with Christoph Schlick

We all experience crises. We usually see them as a nuisance or a stroke of fate and suffer during and often even after the crisis, feeling powerless and controlled by external forces. However, crises are part of life, whether in our private or professional lives. If you lack the appropriate strategies for conflict resolution and don't know how to proceed, I am happy to assist you as an experienced coach and crisis management specialist. I will guide you through these difficult times, whether you are a private individual experiencing a professional or personal crisis, a manager or employee seeking to effectively manage crises in a team, or you simply want to improve your resilience and stress management skills. Because let's face it: only very few of us get through the challenges that life presents us with light-footedly, confidently and with a clear goal.

How can I do it? I am Christoph Schlick and have been a coach and speaker for more than 20 years. Of course, I have also experienced crises and over the years I have developed effective strategies for conflict resolution, which I am happy to pass on to my clients in my crisis management coaching. My unwavering optimism, sense of humour, love of people and, last but not least, my curiosity, along with my experience and expertise, are the perfect skills to help you find your way out of a crisis. Let's get started!

What actually is a crisis?

We generally speak of a crisis when things get difficult, feel dangerous and we have no solution at hand. All too often, this involves a conflict situation with others, for example within a relationship, in the family or even in a professional team. The crisis can also affect us internally when we are no longer satisfied with our lives, are afraid of external changes, develop existential fears or are seriously ill. We cannot avoid crises, that's for sure. That's why it's so important to develop crisis management strategies and at the same time find the inner strength to get through the crisis.

A real crisis throws us off balance and it is often not so easy to regain our balance in the face of challenges:

  • Change of life situation: Crises always herald a change, be it professional, financial or personal. It is often difficult to adapt to the new circumstances, and this is associated with many fears and uncertainties.
  • Emotional strain: A crisis can trigger strong emotions such as fear, stress, anger or despair. It is important to pay attention to your own emotional needs and to seek support from friends, family or professional helpers. You are not alone – there are people who want to and can help you.
  • Insecurity and uncertainty: In a crisis, we often encounter unforeseen and uncertain situations. This can be very frightening. Remember that you have dealt with insecurity in the past.
  • Lack of resources: A crisis can also lead to financial or logistical challenges. It can be difficult to make do with limited resources, and the associated fear for one's livelihood blocks our ability to think creatively about solutions.
  • Loss of motivation: a crisis often intensifies feelings of hopelessness and frustration. It is important to stay positive and believe in yourself. Remember why you initially pursued your goal and what value it has for you.

All these pressures lead to stress and anxiety, and sometimes we get so caught up in them that we can't find suitable strategies to overcome the crisis ourselves. A lack of resilience – the ability to survive difficult life situations well – also makes it difficult for us to regain our courage and see the crisis for what it is: an opportunity for change and realignment.

My professional crisis management starts exactly where the crisis seems overwhelming and insurmountable, and you feel powerless as a victim. With me, you will rediscover your inner strength, which on the one hand enables you to accept the crisis and understand it as an external event that you are not powerless against, and on the other hand, helps you to see your own potential. With me as a questioning and empathetic companion, the crisis becomes an opportunity for personal development and growth.

Crisis coaching – a broad field

There are many ways and methods for overcoming a crisis. Methods for conflict resolution in couples, families or at work. The coach supports his client in various ways, for example with formats for self-reflection, for strengthening the personality and by opening up new perspectives on the current situation and its challenges. The perspective of opportunity is crucial. Because that is what crises always are. You have the choice between individual and group coaching, live or online. If you book individual coaching with me to help you overcome a crisis, I will focus entirely on you and your issues. I act as a translator and moderator for your inner expert, who already knows exactly the right strategies to help you survive the crisis and emerge from it stronger.

Crisis management coaching in a group is another option. This is suitable for individuals who want to benefit from the experiences of others, as well as for crisis situations and conflicts in teams, for example among employees or between the team and management.

In particular, I also conduct individual coaching online with you if you wish. We meet for our sessions via video conferencing. The advantages are obvious: neither you nor I have to travel, we can concentrate perfectly on each other from home.

Good crisis coaching does not start with the elimination of the crisis on the outside, but with yourself. It is much more important to strengthen you. Resilience training, strategies for coping with stress, anxiety or even burnout prevention and improved self-management are methods that increase your emotional intelligence and mental strength. This in turn helps you to cope with crises. With my coaching, you will find your way back to the ability to act and feel like the creator of your life again instead of a victim of circumstances.

FAQ: Frequently asked questions about crisis management coaching

How do you recognise an impending crisis?

Crises often announce themselves gradually. Changes in your environment, constant stress, relationship issues, financial difficulties or physical and mental symptoms are the first warning signs that you should not ignore. Especially if one or more signs persist over a longer period of time, this can herald a crisis or even lead to one.

What are the first steps to take in a crisis?

Once you have recognised that you are in a crisis, the first step is to strengthen yourself. Talk to friends, family or an experienced crisis coach. Most importantly, accept that you are in a crisis. Denial is futile and will only prolong your suffering.

What role does mental health play in overcoming crises?

Resilience and self-confidence make it easier for us to cope with crises. If we already feel fundamentally weak and full of doubt, the crisis will hit us with full force. But even if you find yourself unprepared for a crisis, it's not too late. Crisis management coaching aims to strengthen you and helps you to take a step back and look at the situation more objectively.

What mistakes should be avoided when dealing with a crisis?

The big mistakes in crisis management are denial, guilt and self-doubt. The crisis is there and even if you are responsible for it, it has nothing to do with guilt. Nor are you a helpless victim of the crisis – there are always ways and means to overcome it.

How can you mobilise personal strengths and resources in times of crisis?

In times of crisis, it is important to focus on personal strengths and resources. This can mean using your own abilities, talents and experiences to find solutions to problems or to take on new challenges. It can also mean using supportive relationships and networks to get additional resources and support when you need them. Professional crisis coaching can be extremely helpful here.
